Broken promises . . .
by Patrick O'Brien
Loss of Trust . . .
The New Zealand Government made a solemn promise to its citizens that it would never allow data-sharing of our personal information between Government agencies.
The Government made this promise to allay our fear of Big-Brother when IT data bases were being established in the 1970s and 1980s.
Yesterday the New Zealand Government broke that promise by announcing an initiative that will see “. . . data sharing between ACC, Inland Revenue, Housing New Zealand, the New Zealand Police and the Ministry of Social Development” — a cynical move against our poor.
When Government’s break their promises, it is a direct attack on that which is the most important of all building blocks for any Society — trust.
